Approval of Federal Ministry of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy

The program was submitted to Federal Ministry of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy among the programs dedicated to the Year of Youth. The program was selected as the best program on HLS in RF. Federal Ministry of Sport Tourism and Youth Policy issued an official letter to Youth Affaires Agencies of all regions of Russian Federation recommending HRF youth programs for implementation.
Agreement of Collaboration with Krasnoyarsk kray Ministry of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy

HRF and Krasnoyarsk kray Ministry of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy signed an Agreement of Collaboration on HLS program implementation. The HLS program in Krasnoyarsk kray is fully funded by local administration.
Previously HRF implemented in Krasnoyarsk kray a program on HIV prevention among youth. For 3 years of the program implementation more then 52 000 young people were reached. HIV incidence among the program target audience (15-19 years) was reduced from 27% to 5%.
Training “Fundamentals of HIV counseling for substance abusers”

HRF conducted training “Fundamentals of HIV counseling for substance abusers” for staff of St-Petersburg 16th maternity hospital providing services to women at one high risk and St-Petersburg City Narcological Hospital in the framework of HIV/AIDS prevention and care among chronic drug and alcohol users program . Participants were trained to improve their communication with IDUs and PLHA on risk reduction, motivation to access narcological and HIV treatment and care.
HIV/AIDS prevention and care among chronic drug and alcohol users program new model implementation

HRF have launched new components of HIV/AIDS prevention and care among chronic drug and alcohol users program implementation in Orenburg and St.Petersburg. It includes motivation sessions on HIV risky behavior prevention, motivation to VCT, ARVT and addiction treatment adherence for detox patients, follow-up support and monitoring after patients’ discharge from narcological hospital, complex psycho-social support and counseling services for IDU and HIV+ women.

The 9-minute piece on the program implementation in Irkutsk was shown in the youth program “Dangerous Zone” on the federal TV channel “TV Center”.
HRF shared the experience of the program implementation in Irkutsk Children Home #5 and in the school #12. The program piece included the training sessions’ episodes, interview with the program participants – trainers and adolescents, with HRF stuff members Sergei Frolov and Irina Kondratyeva.
Curriculum on HIV prevention among IDUs piloting in Irkutsk

Piloting of the educational course for two groups of narcologists and experts in infectious diseases from Irkutsk medical institutions was conducted by prepared trainers. All modules were trained during intensive 5-day piloting. Results were considered successful by trainers, participants and foreign observers who also were invited to participate in piloting.
Round table “Modern approaches to narcological rehabilitation HIV prevention” in St-Petersburg

Round table “Modern approaches to narcological rehabilitation HIV prevention” was conducted in the framework of conference “Psychiatry and Narcology in the XXI century” devoted to 90th anniversary of Psychiatry chamber of the Saint-Petersburg Medical academy of post-graduate education. The leading experts of RF in the field of narcology and HIV participated in the event – including Chief Narcologists of St-Petersburg and Orenburg Oblast, Federal AIDS-center and substance abuse treatment experts. Key partner organizations of HRF in North-Western Federal Okrug and Orenburg Oblast were presented. The round table agenda included both reports of HRF key partners on program activity in the sphere of HIV/AIDS prevention and care for substance abusers in 2007-2008, and presentation of prospects for 2009.
Letter of support from Irkutsk Ministry of education

HRF have received a letter of support from Irkutsk Ministry of Education. Irkutsk officials highly appreciated programs developed by Healthy Russia Foundation with guidance and generous funding of Health Department of USAID. Ministry of Education along with the overall administrative support for our program is willing to co-fund our program on Healthy Life Style for youth “Everything that concerns you”. November, 26-29 in Irkutsk TOT for Healthy Life Style program is being conducted fully funded with local funds.
Training for Trainers on Healthy Lifestyle Program for Youth “EVERYTHING THAT CONCERNS YOU” in Sakhalin

3-day training for trainers on healthy lifestyle program for youth “Everything that concerns you” developed by HRF has started in Sakhalin. This program has successfully begun in the region in April 2008 supported by Sakhalin oblast Department of Education and Oblast Commission on Juvenile Affaire. During the summer 2008 the program “Everything that concerns you” was piloted in camps for teens and accepted with great enthusiasm by both trainers and kids.

HRF have refined HIV/AIDS prevention and care among chronic drug and alcohol users strategy. New partners among local NGOs and leading state-run health care facilities in Orenburg and St.Petersburg were included. Workmeeting on the curriculum on HIV prevention among IDUs further steps of implementation

Representatives of leading medical educational institutions – among them – Orenburg state medical academy, Irkutsk State Medical Academy of Post Diploma Education – identified next steps of the curriculum further steps of implementation in the Russian Federation. It also was suggested to approve the developed curriculum in the Ministry of health and social development to give it official status.

Outcomes of HIV/AIDS prevention and care among chronic drug and alcohol users program realization in 2007-2008 were presented at the round tables in Orenburg and St.Petersburg. System of medico-psycho-social for substance abusers, narcological service staff trainings on VCT and building up cooperation between state-run health care system facilities and local NGOs in Orenburg and St.Petersburg developed in the course of program were appreciated by SAMHSA and PEPFAR experts.
